Cottingham Parish Council
Many different events take place in Cottingham throughout the year.
If you would like to have your event shown on this page, please send brief details to the Parish Council Office.
The Parish Council has eight Notice Boards sited at strategic locations around the Village on which posters are displayed giving details of events which are being held as well as information about clubs, societies and groups which operate within the Village.
These Display Boards can be found at: Market Green; Outside the Co-op: West Green, Eppleworth Road; Green Lane (near the Castle Green shops); The Parkway (near the bus shelter); Station Road and the junction of Bricknell Avenue/Hull Road.
The Boards are updated on a weekly basis.
COTTINGHAM DAY - July
Each year Cottingham Parish Council, along with dedicated volunteers organises an annual fun day in Cottingham. This comprises of a parade, stalls, fun fairs, food, rides, dog shows and lots more. The date has not been confirmed as yet for 2017 but keep checking the website for details.
CARAVAN SHOW - September
In September one of the world's largest caravans shows is held at The Lawns Centre in Cottingham. It is organised by the Hull & East Riding Caravan Manufacturers Association.
From late November to early January, the Cottingham Christmas Lights are a spectacular sight. Provided by volunteers of Cottingham, they attract visitors from all over the country, and switch-on night brings out thousands of visitors to witness the event.
, the Cottingham Lights Committee has advised us, with great regret, that there will be no Official Switch-on of Cottingham Lights. This is mainly due to lack of support from certain traders in the village and to a general drop in revenue, donations etc. You will be interested to learn that it now costs more to hold the Switch-on Ceremony than the income received by the Lights Committee.
The cost of maintaining the features, including the replacement of bulbs, and the purchase of new features to maintain the standard of the Cottingham Lights display will now be the main focus of any money received.
The lights will be erected as normal by the voluntary organisers from October onwards and, after all the safety checks have been carried out, they will just be switched on without any official ceremony.
COTTINGHAM SPRINGBOARD FESTIVAL
The Cottingham Springboard Festival is held annually at the end of May each year. It features live music in many of the pubs in the village. For more information see their website
COTTINGHAM FOOD AND DRINK FESTIVAL
Well done for all concerned with the recent Food and Drink Festival that took place on 18 September 2016. The sun shone, the stalls came out, along with a large number of visitors. Cooking demonstrations took place in the Market Green, including demonstrations by Celebrity Chef Brian Turner and a wonderful day was had by all. Further information can be obtained from
COTTINGHAM OPEN GARDENS
Last year, in excess of 20 gardens were opened on two Sundays in June, the 14th and the 21st from 10am to 4pm. This allowed people to get round all the gardens and also was a form of insurance against bad weather.
For the last two years, this event has raised over £7,000 for Dove House Hospice and we are hoping to repeat this event this year.
Incidentally, Dove House is looking for volunteers for their shop on Cottingham Green. If you would like more information please contact Therisa Thompson at Dove House, telephone number 01482 785747 or by e-mail at
Christmas Treasure Hunt
Cottingham Parish Council held its first free Christmas Treasure Hunt on Sunday 11th December 2016 and wow what a success!! Over 130 families collected their clues from the Civic Hall and then set off round the village to start their investigation. Completed forms were marked and prizes, chocolates and stickers given out to all children. Then light refreshments were served whilst children enjoyed Christmas activities. It was a lovely to see all the children enjoying the festive atmosphere and feedback was very positive. Thanks to all our families for supporting this event and a special thanks go to Cottingham Lights volunteers who made our Christmas lights so amazing.
